[Reel Pizza] schedule April 11 - May 1

Hi everyone~!

HAPPY SPRING!  Yay!  This schedule runs (just barely) into May.  That sounds almost like summer to me, so enjoy this spring while we have it!

We have two special programs notes for this fully booked schedule.

On Sunday night, April 28th we are delighted that Bar Harbor residents and the co-directing team of Gita Pullapilly and Aron Gaudet will be attending both screenings to talk about their new film BENEATH THE HARVEST SKY and answer questions from the audience.  They were recently honored by Variety Magazine who placed them on their “Ten Directors to Watch” List.  Additionally, Dustin Hamman, the talented musician who created the film’s score will play live before the screenings.  The film is being released in Maine a week before the national rollout and will play for a week here.

And in honor of Earth Day, also on Sunday April 28th, we will host a special Free Sierra Club Matinee co-sponsored by College of the Atlantic, a screening of the movie DAMNATION about dam removal both in Maine and across the country.  Ken Cline, COA faculty member, will lead discussion after the film.  The film starts at 2pm (doors open at 1:30).

Don't forget to start some seeds, and see you soon!

LE WEEK-END (R)  93min 6:00 and 8:30

Jim Broadbent and Lindsay Duncan star as an older English couple in this witty, insightful and bittersweet comedy about the complexities of a long marriage.  They exhibit resentment, familiarity, disappointment and affection as they revisit for a weekend the city of their honeymoon, Paris, in honor of their 30 th anniversary and with the hopes of rekindling or perhaps ending their relationship.  He is diffident and wistful, she is demanding; they careen from one emotion to another as they deal with their lives both as they have been and in the future.  When they run into an insufferable, successful long-time American friend, their squabbles rise to an emotionally rich and very funny level.  Director Roger Michell (Changing Lanes, Notting Hill, Venus) works again with screenwriter Hanif Kureishi (My Beautiful Laundrette, Venus) making a sophisticated, well-acted and buoyant film.
