Here is our new schedule that starts May 3. According to Hollywood, it is now summer, and the big, fun releases are beginning. For the next few months, we will be opening a smattering of these on the break, and we expect they will play for two weeks each. Occasionally these weeklong films will overlap, as they do on this schedule.
Don't forget! We are closed this week Tuesday thru Thursday while we install new seating in both rooms. We hope you like the improvements, and excuse the interruption, but with the weather we are expected to have this week, it is just as well....we want everyone to spend as much time outside as you can! Spring is the shortest season.....

An entertaining romantic memoir and historical detective story stars Tommy Lee Jones (Lincoln) as Gen. MacArthur at the end of WWII. As the leader of the US occupation of Japan it was his decision whether Emperor Hirohito was a war criminal to be executed, or should be allowed to lead his people. He assigns his protégé General Bonner Fellers (Matthew Fox, TV’s Lost) an expert in Japanese culture as well as psychological warfare, to investigate. In the midst of this political intrigue, Fellers also is searching for the mysterious Japanese exchange student (Eriko Hatsune) who first drew him to the country. This intricate, intelligent and striking film is directed by Peter Webber (Girl With A Pearl Earring).

Visually lovely and honest, this fully enjoyable drama from director Carl Franklin (Devil in a Blue Dress) is his adaptation of Rudolfo Anaya’s widely read and best-selling 1972 Chicano novel. In this magical coming of age drama, set in WWII era rural New Mexico, a boy Antonio (Luke Ganalon) lives with his devout parents and two sisters while his older brothers are off fighting the war. He is guided by an elderly healer (Miriam Colon) who enters his life and discovers they are kindred spirits. She helps him contend with the contradictions between good and evil that he sees in his village.

Should he maintain his anonymity or reveal himself? This film from director Ken Scott is goofy and delightful.

An excellent cast, including Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendes, Bradley Cooper, and Ray Liotta combine with director Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine) in his second excellent film. This original, provocative drama powerfully explores the consequences of stunt motorcycle rider Luke’s (Gosling) fateful decision to use crime to support his son. This act leads him to be the target of a loser college dropout and rookie cop (Cooper). Their encounter has a devastating impact on both of their families in the years following.

Writer Tony Briggs used the story of his mom and three aunts to create the stage play that became this charming and joyous debut film from new director Wayne Blair. Facing home-grown racism and romantic troubles too, three sisters who’ve been singing together since childhood enter a talent show run by a broken but kind and scruffy piano player (Chris O’Dowd, Bridesmaids). He becomes these girls’ manager and encourages them to drop their maudlin country-western songs for exuberant soul and helps them find their first taste of stardom.

Oscar-winning screenwriter Brian Hegeland (LA Confidential, Mystic River) has written and directed a rousing, old-fashioned crowd-pleaser about the integration of major league baseball in 1947. Harrison Ford stars as the scrappy Brooklyn Dodgers general manager who decides for many reasons that it is time for a black player to come up through the farm system. He chooses Jackie Robinson (Chadwick Boseman) a man who he feels is strong enough to endure the racism that is bound to, and does, occur from both within his team and throughout the league.
