Holiday Greeting to Everyone!
We have been back from a lovely time on St. John in the US Virgin Islands for about a week, and are still relaxed and nearly ready to begin showing films to you once more. If you are interested, we would be more than happy to tell you about our trip.
Some notes:
We will begin our winter program of Thursday afternoon Senior Matinees the first week of January 2011. Island Connections (288-4457) can arrange a ride if you qualify for that kind of assistance. On Jan 6th we will screen THE SOCIAL NETWORK at 1:30.
Gift Certificates are still available for all you procrastinators out there, ...like me! They never expire, and your recipient will be glad to use it. Reply to this email, or call 288-3828 during school hours (leave a message after hours- I will return your call if you'd like), or send a check with a note of what you want (PO Box 625 Bar Harbor 04609), and I will fulfill your request. OR, Please feel free to stop in during the day...come in the side door by the church (which will be unlocked when we are here) and up the stairs; I will be glad to help you out.
Please remember that many of the films with *Oscar Buzz* are in very limited release this time of year; we will certainly play them as soon as we can, once their distribution has been widened enough to include Bar Harbor. We thank you for your patience.
Also, we are not a 3D equipped cinema. You won't miss it! ALL our films are shown in bright, clear 2D.

She immediately decides to bring on a legendary but bygone news anchor (Harrison Ford) to co-anchor with the longtime host and former beauty queen (Diane Keaton) while he fills out the end of his contract, but his reluctance and grumpiness test her, even as his co-host is game for anything. Meanwhile, her travails with her new job are taking their toll on her budding relationship with another producer (Patrick Wilson), and soon she finds herself struggling to save everything in her life.

Played by Aaron Johnson, young Lennon is a troubled teen in lower-middle class Liverpool, chafing from life with his strict aunt Mimi (Kristin Scott Thomas) who has raised him since her flakey sister (Ann Marie Duff) gave him up when he was a young child. Learning when he is a young man that his birth mother lives nearby gave rise to a new-found relationship, and she taught him to play banjo. His bond with his mother and his discovery of rock-n-roll are formative experiences for him; the effects are soon be found in his lyrics, as by the end of the film, he has formed a band, the Quarrymen, with some school mates including George Harrison and Paul McCartney.

Director Tony Scott uses real stunts featuring actual trains on real tracks in making this genuinely thrilling and superbly crafted cinematic experience.

He follows several students from 4 US cities desperate to secure through lottery a rare place in a charter school rather than linger in their local school more likely to produce a dropout than a graduate. Exploring the reality of public education for many, he gives voice to innovative solutions hopeful to bring reform and success to our children.

CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER (PG) 115min [in 2D]
Lucy and Edmund Pevensie (Georgie Henley and Skandar Keynes both reprising), along with annoying young cousin Eustace (Will Poulter, Son of Rambow) enter Narnia through a seafaring painting that lands them in the water near the galleon Dawn Treader, helmed by Prince Caspian (Ben Barnes) with help from Reepicheep the mouse (Simon Pegg). An evil force has descended on the kingdom with seven Narnian lords gone missing. The crew must find them and reunite the seven missing swords to break the spell while confronting their own inner demons. Directed with aplomb by Michael Apted (Amazing Grace, 7-Up series), this enchanting, family-friendly adventure has fantastic special effects featuring encounters with sea serpents, dwarves, mer-people, and a nasty green mist.
THE FIGHTER (R) 114min
Based on a true story from 1990�s Lowell Mass., David O. Russell�s gripping film with excellent performances all around explores family and commitment through an underdog boxing story. Mark Wahlberg plays Mickey, a young boxer who hopes to repeat the success in the ring of his idol, trainer and older half-brother Dickey (Christian Bale), who once showed promise, but now is a criminal and crack addict who milks his past glory. But he isn�t winning fights. When Dickey lands in jail, Mickey and his girlfriend Charlene (Amy Adams) think his career might be better served with a paid trainer, but this doesn�t go over well with the men�s formidable, manipulative mom (Melissa Leo), who manages Mickey�s career yet clearly prefers Dickey. When do poisonous family dynamics become so toxic that they must be abandoned?

An evil force has descended on the kingdom with seven Narnian lords gone missing. The crew must find them and reunite the seven missing swords to break the spell while confronting their own inner demons. Directed with aplomb by Michael Apted (Amazing Grace, 7-Up series), this enchanting, family-friendly adventure has fantastic special effects featuring encounters with sea serpents, dwarves, mer-people, and a nasty green mist.

Based on a true story from 1990�s Lowell Mass., David O. Russell�s gripping film with excellent performances all around explores family and commitment through an underdog boxing story. Mark Wahlberg plays Mickey, a young boxer who hopes to repeat the success in the ring of his idol, trainer and older half-brother Dickey (Christian Bale), who once showed promise, but now is a criminal and crack addict who milks his past glory. But he isn�t winning fights. When Dickey lands in jail, Mickey and his girlfriend Charlene (Amy Adams) think his career might be better served with a paid trainer, but this doesn�t go over well with the men�s formidable, manipulative mom (Melissa Leo), who manages Mickey�s career yet clearly prefers Dickey. When do poisonous family dynamics become so toxic that they must be abandoned?
