I guess it is safe to say summer has arrived. At least school is finally out ~ Hurrah! Congratulations to the island's 8th graders on their recent graduation!
This schedule is complete, and this time each film plays for a full week, with the brand new DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES playing for two weeks starting on the July 11th opening. Hopefully, everyone will get a chance to see these popular movies during the height of summer craziness. We will likely return to our normal format for the next go-round.
We have two special programs this month. On Sunday July 6th at 11pm IMPROVISION returns with another wacky episode of our occasional collaboration with the talented comics from ImprovAcadia. On Sunday July 20th we host the next installment in our Sierra Club Summer Matinee series with a free screening of A FIERCE GREEN FIRE including special guest, former Commissioner of the Maine Department of Conservation Pat McGowan, at 2pm.
Please stop by and see the beautiful woodcut prints of scenes on MDI by the talented Blue Butterfield. They will remind you of why you live/visit here. AND Don't forget that on Fourth of July we will only screen our earlier shows so that everyone can get to the fireworks or get out of town before the traffic jam, whichever is your pleasure! If the evening festivities are rained out, we will remain closed after our first shows on 7/4, and will run our regular program all other nights even if the fireworks are rescheduled.

ART IN THE LOBBY Michael Good, Town Hill: Michael J. Good, MS. is a biologist/naturalist, and the founder and director of the Acadia Birding Festival, just concluding its 16th year, and President of Down East Nature Tours, a bird-watching and Nature Tour Company started in 1993. He is the co-founder of the Penobscot Watershed Eco-Center focused on river and stream restoration and the importance of sea-run fish for a healthy Gulf of Maine. Cross country training runs in high school consisted of treks up Acadia Mountain and weekly ambles around Eagle Lake. I now find myself in awe of the beauty that surrounds my childhood memories. It's a yearly joy to bring my own family here to have those same timeless experiences. During my time at Bowdoin, I had the good fortune to cross paths with Tom Killion, a visiting professor and a renowned woodblock artist. It was immediately clear that I had found a medium that was responsive to me. The organic feel of the wood, the finality of each cut, the graphic nature of the prints was all appealing. Since my subject interests have always been how people interact with the natural world, the Island is the perfect location for this and the place I find myself drawn to again and again.” From June 20
