[Reel Pizza] update July 4 - 10

hi everyone

Happy Holiday weekend!!!

Here's our week's schedule.  Don't forget four things.  One, we are AIR CONDITIONED!  Important because it's been hot, hot, hot!  Two, both films screen for the entire week.  Three, on Friday July 4th, we won't be screening later films in deference to the fabulous fireworks display.  We will have our early evening shows, and be back to our regular schedule on Sat.  Please keep your fingers crossed that there is no rain delay, but we will maintain this schedule no matter what happens with the weather.  And Four, we have the next edition of Improvision this weekend, on Sunday at 11:00pm.  Hope to see you here.

See you soon.  Happy Fourth!

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2  (PG)  105min  5:30 and 8:00  *no later show on Fri July 4th
Five years on from the first outing Viking Hiccup and his pet dragon Toothless spend their days flying over the seas discovering and charting new lands near their island home Berk.   On adventure leads to the discovery of a nasty and entirely unreasonable dragon hunter (Djimon Hounsou) who is training an army of dragons to take over the world.  On another, they discover a striking woman (Cate Blanchette) who runs a remote dragon sanctuary, rescuing and rehabilitating dragons.  Hiccup and Toothless become enmeshed in a battle to protect the peace and must fight for what they believe in.  This satisfying, but somewhat darker sequel blends beautiful animation and thrilling storytelling with real emotional heft.  Director Dean DeBlois directs and wrote this second installment of his successful franchise solo (the first DRAGONS film was co-directed and co-written.)  trailer

Fri July 4 - Thurs July 10
THE FAULT IN OUR STARS  (PG-13)  125min 6:00 and 8:30   *no later show on Fri July 4th
Faithful to the bestselling novel by John Green adapted by Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber ((500) Days of Summer, The Spectacular Now), this lively, honest and witty story about two teenagers who meet at a cancer support group is ultimately sad but fully celebrates life and is acerbically funny.  Young star Shailene Woodley (The Descendants, Divergent) gives a naturally and fully open performance as Hazel, a 16 year old with stage IV cancer, now stabilized.  She spends her time lugging around an oxygen tank that allows her damaged lungs to breathe.  Gus, a free-spirited boy who falls for her instantly, lost his leg to cancer that is now in remission and wears a prosthetic limb.  They share a first love that neither thought would happen, and he takes her on a trip (with her loving mom, played by Laura Dern) to Amsterdam to meet the author of her favorite novel that doesn’t go as planned, but then life never does.   trailer

Sunday July 6
IMPROVISION  (NR)  11:00pm
This is our occasional collaboration between the comic talents of ImprovAcadia and Chris's B Movie collection.  In a randomly selected genre determined by a spin of the wheel, this ever-changing group of up-and-coming talents improvise - on the fly - the dialogue, sounds, songs and music to a cheesy movie, played without sound, that they have never seen before.  It is a new show every time and always a lot of fun.
