[Reel Pizza] update March 15 - 21

hi everyone

The Seniors voted that the matinee for this coming Thursday (3/14) will be WUTHERING HEIGHTS  at 1:30.

Here are the films for this coming week.

Starting Friday we play (theoretically) the final film from director Stephen Soderberg, who has brought us sex, lies and videotape, Out of Sight, Erin Brockovich, Traffic, Ocean's Eleven (and Twelve and Thirteen), Magic Mike and many other great films over the years.  At least he's said he isn't making any more!  Hope not though.  Also, we offer a boldly realized new version of a timeless classic, and the Oscar-nominated film from France and the director of Un Prophet starring the luminous Marion Cotillard.

Have you been by to see the new art in our lobby from repeat presenter and Town Hill artist Nan Ulette?  She is into some awesome and luminous new techniques, plus she has new fish on display and for sale.

See you soon!
-Lisa and Chris

SIDE EFFECTS  (R)  106min  6:00 and 8:15
Director Stephen Soderberg (sex, lies and videotape, Magic Mike) claims he is retiring and this is his final film, which would be a shame.  True or not, with this film he has made a clever elegant and provocative psychological thriller.  Emily (Rooney Mara, Girl with a Dragon Tattoo) and Martin (Channing Tatum) are a well-to-do New York couple who are trying to cope after Martin serves time for insider trading.  Emily’s increasing depression is being treated by her psychiatrist (Jude Law) but their worlds unravel after she is prescribed a new anti-anxiety drug that has unexpected results.

Fri Mar 15 - Thurs Mar 21
WUTHERING HEIGHTS  (NR)  129min   5:30 and 8:00
This exciting and fresh take on Emily Brontë’s classic and only novel boldly revitalizes this epic love story of forbidden passion on the moors of rural Northern England. British director Andrea Arnold (Fish Tank) uses a cast of unknown actors, and gorgeously atmospheric naturalism and realism in her interpretation of the relationship between the orphaned boy Heathcliff, brought into the home of a benevolent Yorkshire farmer, and his daughter Catherine, as well as the quite different relationship between the boy and the man’s son Hindley.  As these three grow into adulthood, they must confront the intense feelings and rivalries that have grown over the years.

Tues Mar 19 - Thurs Mar 21

RUST AND BONE  (R)  122min  [in French with subtitles]   5:30 and 8:00
This story of two disparate people who bring each other back to life features charismatic performances by Marion Cotillard and Matthias Schoenaerts, and astute direction by Oscar-nominated director Jacques Audiard (Un Prophèt).  Based on short stories by Canadian Craig Davidson, homeless Ali has custody of his young son who he hardly knows, and is trying to make ends meet, while getting his sister to take care of his kid.  He gets a job as a bar bouncer, and one night he breaks up a fight started by radiant Marineland whale trainer Stephanie, and takes her home, leaving her his number.  When a tragic accident occurs to Stephanie, she desperately calls Ali.
