[Reel Pizza] update June 3 - 9

hey everyone

Summer has started! The local graduations have begun, this weekend at
COA, and soon for the Highschool and 8th graders. CONGRATS to everyone
who has completed this milestone; go out and do great things.

And I am working on the schedule that runs past July 4th!

This Friday at 11pm we welcome the first installment of the fourth year of
IMPROVISION, our occasional late-night collaboration with the talented and
fun folks at ImprovAcadia, who make up the soundtrack, dialogue and
effects to a cheesy old movie (with the sound off) that they have never
seen before. They can and do make anything funny! It is a new show every
time; take a restorative nap or have a coffee after dinner and come check
it out.

Films for this week are:

Fri June 3 - Thurs June 9 KUNG FU PANDA 2 (PG) 91min 5:30 and 7:45

Fri June 3 LATE NIGHT: IMPROVISION (NR) 11pm

Fri June 3 - Mon June 6 FAST FIVE (PG-13) 130min 6:00 and 8:30

Tues June 7 - Thurs June 9 KORKORO (NR) 111min [in French and Romani
with subtitles] 6:00 and 8:15

see you soon

Fri June 3 - Thurs June 9
KUNG FU PANDA 2 (PG) 91min 5:30 and 7:45
Po the Panda (Jack Black) is now living his dream as The Dragon Warrior,
protecting the Valley of Peace alongside his friends and fellow kung fu
masters, The Furious Five (Mantis, Tiger, Monkey, Snake and Crane). But
Po's new life of awesomeness is threatened by the emergence of a
formidable villain, who plans to use a secret, unstoppable weapon to
conquer China and destroy kung fu. Po must look to his past and uncover
the secrets of his mysterious origins; only then will he be able to unlock
the strength he needs to succeed.

Fri June 3 - Mon June 6
FAST FIVE (PG-13) 130min 6:00 and 8:30
High-octane energy and scenic, Brazilian locales propel this popcorn flick
with audacious stunts and a fun, exciting heist-caper plot. Vin Diesel,
Paul Walker, and Jordana Brewster and many supporting actors from previous
sequels are joined by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson who goes up against Diesel
bicep to bicep. Johnson plays a federal agent assigned to bring down
unlikely partners ex-con Dom (Diesel) and ex-cop Brian (Walker) who have
gotten themselves cornered in a high stakes race, and have to pull one
last job to gain their freedom.

Tues June 7 - Thurs June 9
KORKORO (NR) 111min [in French and Romani with subtitles] 6:00 and 8:15
This passionate and lovely new movie from Romani filmmaker Tony Gatlif
(Latcho Drom, Gadjo Dilo) presents the plight of the gypsy people in
France during WW2, when both the Nazis and the French government were
working against them, through a single family's story. When the French
outlawed nomads, these migrant workers found their way of life illegal.
As they struggle to adapt to their new static situation, some try to help
them, including a provincial veterinarian and a young school teacher, but
most French look on them as common thieves. One (played by Charlie
Chaplin's grandson James Thiérrée) takes in an orphaned French child who
finds a loving home with these misunderstood people, and although he has
other options, he chooses their fate. The film's title means "freedom" in
Romani, the images show their compelling customs, and the soundtrack
features their exquisitely spirited music.
