[Reel Pizza] Update Jan 24 - 30

The Oscar Nominations came out last Thursday, and we have a pretty good chance to show you all of the nominated films (save the unreleased foreign language and animated titles) before the ceremony... which is coming up Sunday March 2.  This year's Gala Soiree is being organized by and supports Bar Harbor's Jesup Library.  Stay tuned for more details; tickets are available now at the Library!

This week, our Oscar-nominated film is ALL IS LOST, which received a Sound Editing nod; some feel Robert Redford's performance also deserved an acting nomination.

Our Senior Matinee this coming Thursday is 12 YEARS A SLAVE at 1:30.  Next week's film choice will be discussed at this week's screening.

Fri Jan 24 - Thurs Jan 30
ANCHORMAN 2  (PG-13)   119min    6:00 and 8:30

As the 1970s give way to the 1980s, pompous buffoon Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) keeps it classy, returning to the news desk on the first 24-hour all-news cable network.  He collects his old team, including brainless weatherman Brick (Steve Carell), stud reporter Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd), and racist sports guy Champ (David Koechner).  Adam McKay directs another wacky, inspired episode full of slapstick and sheer silliness.   trailer

Fri Jan 24 - Mon Jan 27
ALL IS LOST  (PG-13)   106min   5:30 and 8:00
Robert Redford gives a riveting and tremendous performance as a man alone in a 39-foot sailboat in the middle of the Indian Ocean who must fight for survival after an errant cargo container rips a hole in his boat’s hull.  That is only the beginning of his tribulations which he deals with stoically and methodically.  Oscar-nominated for his screenplay for his first film Margin Call, writer/director JC Chandor has made a thought-provoking, nearly wordless, and thrilling adventure.  trailer

Tues Jan 28 - Thurs Jan 30

KILL YOUR DARLINGS  (R)  104 min   5:30 and 8:00
As famed poet Allan Ginsburg, Daniel Radcliffe immerses himself with the ensemble cast who all give rich performances in this evocative period drama about Ginsberg’s early years at Columbia University. During his freshman year he meets others who would define the Beat Generation with him, including William Burroughs (Ben Foster) and Jack Kerouac (Jack Huston), and charismatic classmate Lucien Carr (Dane DeHaan).  When an older outsider they know dies under mysterious circumstances, all are arrested as potential suspects, an event that would have a major impact on the lives of these emerging artists.  trailer
