Here is the schedule of events at Reel Pizza for the time frame Aug 17 - Sept 6. A little bit of everything! Both screens are booked so times are included. Hurrah! Another IMPROVISION happens Sunday Aug 19. And don't forget the Free Sierra Club matinee this Sunday (tomorrow) at 2pm with two films, one an Oscar-nominated film on sea levels; the other on the ocean's health, with UMIO Prof Joseph Kelley speaking. We are looking forward to these last few weeks of summer; by the time this group of films is over, most people's worlds (ours included) will have segued into fall! It's that giant whooshing sound again!
See you soon!

Fri Aug 10 - Thurs Aug 23 THE BOURNE LEGACY (PG-13) 135min
Screenwriter for the previous three Bourne movies, Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton) has created an original story and also now directs this exciting, new adventure that focuses on a new character Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner, The Hurt Locker), another special CIA agent in a related program whose existence has been compromised by the exposure of Jason Bourne’s operation. He and all this program’s trainees are targeted by the program’s director (Ed Norton) to be terminated in a purge of this department. Barely escaping an assassination attempt, he joins forces with another target, a bio-chemist (Rachel Weisz, The Deep Blue Sea) who he needs to keep him alive.
Fri Aug 17 - Thurs Aug 23 PARANORMAN (PG) 96min
Misunderstood and outcast, weird kid Norman is able to speak with the dead. When his town is overrun by zombies, he enlists his friends and enemies to take them on, as well as ghosts, witches and, worst of all, grown-ups to save his town from a centuries-old curse. From Laika, the stop-motion animation studio that made Coraline, and from an original script by co-directors Sam Fell (Flushed Away, Tale of Despereaux) and Chris Butler, with voice work by Casey Affleck, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Anna Kendrick, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and John Goodman, this is clever, captivating and spooky fun.
Fri Aug 24 - Thurs Aug 30 BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD (PG-13) 93min
This extraordinary debut film, winner of the Cannes Camera d’Or for best first film and the top Sundance prize for fiction film, is a strikingly original, beautiful film and an altogether unforgettable experience. Young Quvenzhané Wallis inhabits the role of Hushpuppy, who lives with her ailing, alcoholic father Wink (played by a New Orleans baker named Dwight Henry) in a defiant bayou community called the Bathtub on the other side of the levee from “civilization”. While he is trying to prepare her for survival after he’s gone, she believes that the natural world is in balance with the universe, …until catastrophe strikes. Director Benh Zeitlin and playwright Lucy Alibar adapt her play Juicy and Delicious into a magical, spellbinding poetry.
Fri Aug 24 - Mon Aug 27 THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN (PG-13) 137min
This fun, new version of the Spiderman genesis story stars Andrew Garfield (Social Network) as our young hero and Emma Stone (The Help) as his high school sweetheart Gwen. Director Marc Webb ((500) Days of Summer) provides more interesting character development without sacrificing any of the exciting action adventure. Peter Parker lives with his aunt and uncle (Sally Field and Martin Sheen) and is trying to solve the mystery behind the death of his parents. When goes to see a former colleague of his dad’s (Rhys Ifans) who is doing experiments on reptile DNA, he gets bit by the infamous arachnid and gains his super powers.
Tues Aug 28 - Thurs Aug 30 HEADHUNTERS (R) 101min [in Norwegian with subtitles]
This gutsy and engaging Norwegian thriller is based on the best-selling mystery novel from Jo Nesbø. Roger Brown (Aksel Hennie), a corporate executive recruiter, lives well beyond his means to keep his statuesque wife satisfied, by moonlighting as an art thief, partnering with his buddy who works in home security. When he meets Clas (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, TVs Game of Thrones), a recently retired mercenary in possession of a priceless painting, he disregards his initial impression, and decides to risk it all to get the art. What he discovers makes him a hunted man.

Fri Aug 31 - Thurs Sept 6 THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL (PG-13) 124min
Back by popular demand! A group of British retirees (played by Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Tom Wilkinson, Bill Nighy and others) decide for various reasons to move their retirement to less expensive and seemingly exotic India, enticed by advertisements for the newly restored Marigold Hotel. Bolstered with visions of a life of leisure, these disparate expats arrive to find the palace, run by young Sonny (Dev Patel, Slumdog Millionaire), a shell of its former self. This delightful ensemble, based on Deborah Moggach’s novel These Foolish Things, is directed with charm by John Madden (Shakespeare in Love).
Fri Aug 31 - Mon Sept 3 TO ROME WITH LOVE (R) 112min [partly in Italian with subtitles]
Woody Allen moves from the City of Lights to the Eternal City in his follow-up to last year’s Midnight in Paris. He intercuts four clever and funny stories set in the Italian capital that show his love for a beautiful city. An older architect revisits the places of his youth; a middle class man becomes wildly famous for no reason at all; a newlywed couple gets separated and they each have different romantic encounters; the first meeting of a girl’s parents and her soon-to-be in-laws doesn’t go as planned. Alec Baldwin, Ellen Page, Jesse Eisenbaum, Greta Gerwig, Roberto Benigni, Penélope Cruz, Judy Davis and director Allen himself are among the actors.
Tues Sept 4 - Thurs Sept 6 POLISSE (NR) 127min [in French with subtitles]
This Cannes Grand Jury prize-winner (2nd) is a powerful and dramatic, multi-character police thriller, based on actual cases researched by director-co-writer Maiwenn inspired by a documentary film she saw. She explores the dynamics of the Child Protection Services Unit of the Paris police force and the toll their jobs have on the lives of the individuals who work this beat day in and day out. With an excellent ensemble she weaves a web of the daily routine of this group of dedicated but affected officers into a gripping and unsentimental story that you won’t forget.
Sunday Aug 19 IMPROVISION
So Wrong for all the Right reasons Check out our occasional, wacky collaboration with the talented ImprovAcadia crew! With the sound turned off, this ever-changing group of up and coming comedians improvise the dialogue, music tracks and sound effects to a cheesy, grade B movie, THAT THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE! Their talents make the pictures on the screen way funnier than they were ever anticipated. It's a totally new show every time. Don't miss out on all the fun.
