hi everyone WAH! It is the last week of summer vacation! Hope you can make the most of it! This has been a crazy kind of week in our world, even more than usual, which is why this is coming just today...no way around it this time.... For those of you on our snail mail list, you will soon be receiving a flyer with the films and schedule for our fourth MIFF By-the-Sea film festival coming to Reel Pizza the weekend after Labor Day; the paper version is also available at Reel Pizza and you are welcome to pick one up. I will try to get the email out with the descriptions asap. Either way, we hope you find a film or two that interests you; please look over the offerings - there are many wonderful films coming - many about and from Maine, and several filmmakers will be attending to talk about their work. For those of you who might be interested in seeing more than one or two films, we will be selling discount passes...they should be available at the box office by the beginning of next week. Here is the round-up of this weeks films. Looking forward to seeing you soon. -Lisa and Chris Fri 8/24 - Mon 8/27 THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN (PG-13) 137min 5:30 and 8:15 Fri 8/24 - Thurs 8/30 BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD (PG-13) 93min 6:00 and 8:00 Tues 8/28 - Thurs 8/30 HEADHUNTERS (R) 101min [in Norwegian with subtitles] 5:30 and 8:15 Aug 24 - 30 BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD (PG-13) 93min 6:00 and 8:00 This extraordinary debut film, winner of the Cannes Camera dOr for best first film and the top Sundance prize for fiction film, is a strikingly original, beautiful film and an altogether unforgettable experience. Young Quvenzhané Wallis inhabits the role of Hushpuppy, who lives with her ailing, alcoholic father Wink (played by a New Orleans baker named Dwight Henry) in a defiant bayou community called the Bathtub on the other side of the levee from civilization. While he is trying to prepare her for survival after hes gone, she believes that the natural world is in balance with the universe, until catastrophe strikes. Director Benh Zeitlin and playwright Lucy Alibar adapt her play Juicy and Delicious into a magical, spellbinding poetry. Aug 24 - 27 THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN (PG-13) 137min 5:30 and 8:15 This fun, new version of the Spiderman genesis story stars Andrew Garfield (Social Network) as our young hero and Emma Stone (The Help) as his high school sweetheart Gwen. Director Marc Webb ((500) Days of Summer) provides more interesting character development without sacrificing any of the exciting action adventure. Peter Parker lives with his aunt and uncle (Sally Field and Martin Sheen) and is trying to solve the mystery behind the death of his parents. When goes to see a former colleague of his dads (Rhys Ifans) who is doing experiments on reptile DNA, he gets bit by the infamous arachnid and gains his super powers. Aug 28 - 30 HEADHUNTERS (R) 101min [in Norwegian with subtitles] 5:30 and 8:15 This gutsy and engaging Norwegian thriller is based on the best-selling mystery novel from Jo Nesbø. Roger Brown (Aksel Hennie), a corporate executive recruiter, lives well beyond his means to keep his statuesque wife satisfied, by moonlighting as an art thief, partnering with his buddy who works in home security. When he meets Clas (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, TVs Game of Thrones), a recently retired mercenary in possession of a priceless painting, he disregards his initial impression, and decides to risk it all to get the art. What he discovers makes him a hunted man. -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web.com - Microsoft® Exchange solutions from a leading provider - http://link.mail2web.com/Business/Exchange
