[Reel Pizza] update Aug 6 - 12

hey everyone

August has arrived in all its glory, and here is the next week's events at Reel Pizza.  A news flash is that we have just learned that Reel Pizza will be opening EAT PRAY LOVE starting next week 8/13 with showtimes at 5:15 and 8:15.  It is actually 140minutes long (not the 80min run time Sony advertised a few weeks ago!).  Have a good week!

SPECIAL EVENT  Saturday August 7th
PLANTING HOPE   25min    1:00 and 3:00pm   $5 donation
Learn how one small Surry, Maine-based non-profit organization, Sustainable Harvest International, is alleviating poverty and deforestation in Central America. Planting Hope is a short-documentary that captures life in rural Honduras from the perspectives of SHI field trainer, Juan Carlos, and participant farmer, Don Cheyo as they talk about sustainable farming. SHI's mission is to provide farming families in Central America with the training and tools to preserve tropical forests while overcoming poverty. In Panama, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Belize, they work one-on-one, hands-on, with individual families and communities for a period of typically five years to teach them how to grow crops in a sustainable and organic way that will allow them to access plenty of vegetables and achieve economic stability through the commercialization of cash crops, like cacao and coffee. Planting Hope highlights their work to implement sustainable land-use practices and a Honduran farmer's achievements after working with them.

SHI Founder/President Florence Reed will give a brief overview of this group's work and answer any questions following both screenings of the documentary.

SALT (PG-13)  100min   5:30 and 8:00
This exciting, stylish and presciently timely action-spy thriller directed by Phillip Noyce (The Quiet American, Patriot Games) stars Angelina Jolie as Evelyn Salt.  Doing her own stunts in professionally crafted action sequences (not computer-generated), she plays a CIA officer who swore an oath to duty, honor and country, but her loyalty will be tested when a defector accuses her of being a Russian sleeper spy.  Salt goes on the run, chased by a conservative CIA counterintelligence officer (Chjwetel Ejiofor), using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative to elude capture.  Salt's efforts to prove her innocence only serve to cast doubt on her motives and her supportive boss (Liev Schreiber) becomes slowly convinced he's been had.  The hunt to uncover the truth behind her identity continues and the question remains: "Who Is Salt?"

THE OTHER GUYS  (PG-13)  107min    6:00 and 8:30
NYC Detective Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell) is a meticulous forensic accountant who's more interested in and accurate with paperwork than he'd ever be hitting the streets, and Detective Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg) is a tough guy who has been stuck with Allen as his partner ever since an unfortunate run-in with NY Yankee Derek Jeter left a sizable black mark on his permanent record. Gamble and Hoitz idolize the city's top cops, confident, stylish and always successful Highsmith and Danson (Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson), but when an opportunity arises for Gamble and Hoitz to prove their mettle, things don't quite go as planned.  Directed by Adam McKay (Anchorman, Talladega Nights) this buddy police comedy is sure to shine.
