[Reel Pizza] update Aug 13 - 19

Here is our program for the week of August 13 - 19 at Reel Pizza.  Hope you are having a busy, fun-filled summer.  I will have the next full schedule for you soon....it runs past Labor Day!
-Lisa

To start, we have two special programs on Sunday August 15th.

In the afternoon we offer a Free film with a special guest speaker, the star and screenwriter!
Sunday August 15th
A SENSE OF WONDER 55min  2pm   Free
Rachel Carson's 1963 warnings about the effects of pesticides and herbicides - especially DDT - sparked a revolution in environmental policy and created a new ecological consciousness.   This American Experience documentary, filmed in Maine on location at Carsons cabin, follows this pioneering activist's last year of life when Silent Spring was published and she was attacked by the chemical industry and the government, even as she waged her own war against the cancer in her own body.  Using many of Rachel Carsons own words, both humorous and angry, screenwriter and star Kaiulani Lee embodies this extraordinary woman, her love for the natural world and her fight to defend it.

Miss Lee will introduce the film at the screening and take questions afterwards.   The Sierra Club offers this for no charge to get people focused on the environment.

then in the wee hours its another installment of our popular late night event
LATE NIGHT FUN
Sunday August 15th   IMPROVISION  11pm
ITS BACK! and Better than ever!  Check out our occasional, wacky collaboration with the talented ImprovAcadia crew!  With the sound turned off, this ever-changing group of up-and-coming comedians improvise the dialogue, music tracks and sound effects to a cheesy, grade-B movie, THAT THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE!  Their talents make the pictures on the screen way funnier than they were ever anticipated.  It's a totally new show every time.   If you haven't seen it yet, now's the time.  Don't miss out on all the fun.

As it was last week, both our regular films will screen all week long again this coming week.

THE OTHER GUYS (PG-13)  107min   6:00 and 8:30
NYC Detective Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell) is a meticulous forensic accountant who's more interested in and accurate with paperwork than hed ever be hitting the streets, and Detective Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg) is a tough guy who has been stuck with Allen as his partner ever since an unfortunate run-in with NY Yankee Derek Jeter left a sizable black mark on his permanent record. Gamble and Hoitz idolize the city's top cops, confident, stylish and always successful Highsmith and Danson (Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson), but when an opportunity arises for Gamble and Hoitz to prove their mettle, things don't quite go as planned.  Directed by Adam McKay (Anchorman, Talladega Nights) this buddy police comedy is sure to shine.
