Fri May 31 -
Thurs June 6
IRON MAN 3  (PG-13)   130min  6:00 and 8:30
Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, and Don Cheadle return in this exciting third episode of the popular franchise.  Ben Kingsley is a menacing, intelligent baddie, and Guy Pearce is a salesman with an intriguing invention that can metabolize new body parts that he hopes to sell to Stark Industries.  Director/screenwriter Shane Black (his debut was Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) keeps things light and stuff blows up real good, including Tony Stark’s bachelor pad, as the best popcorn movies ought.  It is a slick and fun movie all around.  Iron Man 3 Trailer

THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES  (R)  140min   5:30 and 8:15
An excellent cast, including Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendes, Bradley Cooper, and Ray Liotta combine with director Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine) in his second excellent film.  This original, provocative drama powerfully explores the consequences of stunt motorcycle rider Luke’s (Gosling) fateful decision to use crime to support his son.  This act leads him to be the target of a loser college dropout and rookie cop (Cooper).  Their encounter has a devastating impact on both of their families in the years following.  Place Beyond the Pines Trailer

Tues June 4 -  Thurs June 6
BLANCANIEVES  (PG-13)  105min  [Silent with intertitles]  5:30 and 8:00
This stunningly black and white, passionate melodrama merges the legendary Grimm fairy tale with a story of two generations of bullfighters.  A wounded matador whose wife, a flamenco dancer, died in childbirth sends his infant daughter to live with her grandmother; when she passes, the girl comes to live with her father and his new wife, a gold-digging nurse (Maribel Verdu, Y Tu Mama Tambien), who treats the girl as a slave.  One day she runs away with a troupe of dwarves and becomes a legendary matador herself.  This is a sumptuous, imaginative and engrossing silent film from Spanish filmmaker Pablo Berger.  Blancanieves Trailer
