[Reel Pizza] update Sept 7 - 13

Happy First Day of School (to those of you whose lives change this day!)

We are nigh upon one of our favorite weekends of the year....it's MIFF By-the-Sea time, when we screen a selection of films from this summer's Maine International Film Festival.  We are pre-selling tickets for these weekend films, and have special passes to offer for those who are interested in more than a film or two, and like a bargain!  We have two partial passes which are good for up to two admissions per screening: a 6 ticket pass is $45; a ten ticket pass is $70 and a full festival pass, which is good for one to every event is $90 (including ImproVision and the Catered Opening Reception).  I will list the film schedule below by day and screen.  I just sent out the film descriptions, so will refrain from repeating that.  Tickets are available at the boxoffice after 4:30 every day or by calling me (288-3828) during school hours (8 - 4) with a credit card, or come by the office during the day.  Any questions? Let me know and I will try to help!

Then come Tuesday we are back to "normal".  We will be returning MOONRISE KINGDOM for those of you unable to score a seat at, or the time to attend, the sold-out shows we had last month (like me!)  And on the other screen we have the delightful, based-on-a-true story, comedy HYSTERIA starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and Hugh Dancy.  MOONRISE will play thru next weekend; HYSTERIA is just in the regular 3-day mid-week slot.  Tomorrow I will send out the full next schedule (that officially starts Friday).

See you soon!

CLOSING PARTY AT LOMPOC CAFE ************* Tues - Thursday Sept 11 - 13 MOONRISE KINGDOM (PG-13) 94min 5:30 and 7:45 continues thru Sept 17 BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!  In director Wes Anderson’s (Fantastic Mr. Fox, Rushmore, Royal Tennenbaums) consistently delightful new film, co-written with Roman Coppola, two twelve year-olds – one an orphan at Scout Camp, the other a lonely local girl – fall in love, make a secret pact and run away together into the wilderness.  Set on a New England coastal island in the summer of 1965, the peaceful island community is turned upside-down as the authorities, including the sheriff (Bruce Willis), the Scout Master (Ed Norton), the girl’s parents (Bill Murray and Frances McDormand) and a Social Services representative (Tilda Swinton) try to hunt them down before a hurricane arrives.      and HYSTERIA (R) 95min 6:00 and 8:15 This discreet and lighthearted romantic comedy from director Tanya Wexler features an accomplished cast set in the highly costumed Victorian-era and is based on a true story.  Dr. Dalrymple (Jonathan Pryce) has a popular and established practice, exclusively treating a number of women’s maladies with a technique of intimate manual pelvic manipulation, and can’t keep up with the number of afflicted patients seeking treatment.  He also has two daughters of marriageable age, one prim and proper (Felicity Jones) who seeks a husband, the other a rebellious suffragette (Maggie Gyllenhaal).  He hires a progressive and dashing young physician, Dr. Granville (Hugh Dancy) to help in his office, but soon his new hire suffers from what we would know is carpal tunnel syndrome.  This is the sweet and funny story of how he solves his predicament with the help of a friend (Rupert Everett) who dabbles in the new world of electricity.
