[Reel Pizza] update Oct 28 - Nov 3

Hi everyone

This morning I participated in "The Business of Reading" at the Conners
Elementary School in Bar Harbor. Every morning for a week, a business
person visits each classroom and talks about how reading is important to
their work and then reads a story, or a portion thereof, aloud to the
class. Today I read to some great first graders and we talked about the
reading I do to choose movies and about where the ideas for movies come
from.

In this spirit, I want to mention that there are several films opening
this fall that are literary adaptations, so while we are closed, you might
want to visit your local library or bookstore and pick up some reading,
/before/ you see the movie! (I should thank my mother for forwarding me an
email she received from her local bookstore in Clinton, NJ for this list
of titles.)

CORIOLANUS by William Shakespeare
WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN by Lionel Shriver
THE INVENTION OF HUGO CABRET by Brian Selznick
THE DESCENDENTS by Kaui Hart Hemmings
THE ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES by Arthur Conan Doyle (a second film
based on the stories)
THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO by Steig Larsson (the English language
version)
WE BOUGHT A ZOO by Benjamin Mee

This week we have two literary adaptations (although one should be
considered a rather "loose" adaptation!), as well as a special mid-week
film that benefits the MDI Historical Society. See you soon!

discuss their contribution to the final product.
