There is nothing like dear friends visiting from out of town to put all
thoughts of office work to the back of my mind. My boss needs to get on
my case!
Here is the schedule of events at Reel Pizza from July 3rd through July
23rd. See you soon!

A few reminders: On the evening of July 4th (Saturday), we will not be
showing later screenings of either film, during the fireworks display.
Keep your fingers crossed that this incessant rain stops by then!!
Also, for the high summer months, IMPROVISION, our exciting, hysterical
collaboration with the talented folks at ImprovAcadia has moved to
alternate SUNDAYS starting at 11pm. The next installment is on Sunday
July 5th, followed by July 19th, August 2nd, August 16th, and August 30th.
In the fall they will be moving back to Friday nights. Hope you can make
time to come by and experience all the big-time fun!
Finally, don't forget to support our local farmers. We host a wonderful
farmer's market here in our parking lot on Wednesdays from 9am - 1pm.
Last week there were strawberries that were so delicious, and rumor has
it, that among other things, there may be peas this week (mmmmmm). Plus
LOTS of other delicious, healthy veggies, meats, dairy products, flowers
and prepared foods for you and your family. See you here.

We will feature NEW ART in our lobby from Bar Harbor resident Anthony
Nicholson starting July 3rd.
"Growing up in Sydney Australia my family environment strongly focused on
the visual arts. With a keen appreciation of the great outdoors, be it
in the tiny garden of my mother's inner city house, or in the bush, or at
the beach, I first developed an interest in nature photography. My
professional career in the biological sciences circuitously led me to
living in Maine. The visual riches of rural Maine together with great
advances in digital photography provide me with an irresistible impetus to
follow my muse – the observation and documentation of the intricacies and
patterns of nature. Finding overlooked patterns and rhythms within the
natural environment, especially those associated with water in all its
many forms, is an ongoing pleasure. I hope that looking at our
surroundings in unusual and interesting ways will remind people of their
natural environment and the impact that humans have on it. See
differently, act locally, impact globally..."

And of course we have film:
Tues June 30 - Thurs July 2 at 6:00 and 8:15
and Fri July 3 - Mon July 6 at 5:30 and 7:45* no later show on 7/4 UP
(PG) 96min
A cranky, older widower and former balloon salesman (Ed Asner) attempts to
escape his neighborhood's gentrification and fulfill a lifelong dream by
floating his house away for an adventure, alone, to a remote South
American rainforest, only to discover that a young wilderness explorer has
stowed away on his craft and is coming with him. This latest Pixar
animated film, another great one from a venerated studio and
writer/director Pete Docter (Monsters, Inc, writer of Wall-E and Toy
Story.) is a hilarious and suspenseful journey to an unexplored world with
an unlikely pair of mates.
Friday July 3 - Thursday July 9
THE HANGOVER (R) 99min 6:00 and 8:15* no later show on 7/4
Director Todd Phillips (Old School) has made an outrageous buddy story and
detective yarn, a profanely raunchy comedy that could be the hit of the
summer. The story follows three groomsmen who take their groom on a
bachelor's overnight to Vegas before the wedding. They wake up the next
morning remembering nothing of the night before but, their groom has gone
missing. Plus there's a baby in the closet, and a snarling tiger in the
bathroom, one of them has a missing tooth, another a hospital bracelet,
and the claim check they give the hotel valet delivers them a police car.
Quickly, with pounding heads they must backtrack and recreate the previous
night's events in hopes of finding their groom in time for the wedding in
Los Angeles. It is twisted, clever, and must see.
Tues July 7 - Thurs July 9
THE BROTHERS BLOOM (PG-13) 113min 5:30 and 8:00
This energetic, touching and quirky screwball comedy, the second film from
director Rian Johnson (Brick) is reminiscent of early Wes Anderson. Mark
Ruffalo (Zodiac), as shady Stephen, and Adrian Brody (Cadillac Records),
as dreamer Bloom, star as orphaned siblings, now grown, who have gotten by
their whole lives by scamming people. When Bloom wants out of the game
for good, Stephen convinces him to join him on one last con, of a
reclusive but adorable millionaire heiress with a lust for adventure
(Rachel Weisz, The Constant Gardener). Rinko Kikuchi (Babel) is
hysterical in a nearly silent performance as BangBang, the brother's
sidekick.

Friday July 10 - Thursday July 16
ICE AGE: DAWN OF THE DINOSAURS (PG) 94min 5:30 and 7:45
Ray Romano, John Leguizamo and Dennis Leary reprise their roles as Manny
the mammoth, Sid the sloth, and Diego the saber-toothed tiger in this new
installment of the popular animated show. Diego wonders if he's gone too
soft hanging with his plant-eating friends. Jealous of the impending
birth of Manny and Ellie's baby mammoth, Sid finds and hatches some eggs,
because he wants a family too. But it gets him into trouble, as they have
been stolen from a humongous mama; she steals them back, along with Sid,
and the gang has to rescue him from an underground tropical paradise…that
is full of supposedly extinct animals like dinosaurs and carnivorous
plants that might like to eat them up!
Starting July 10th through at least Tuesday July 14
THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1 2 3 (R) 121min 6:00 and 8:30
Denzel Washington and John Travolta star in this sleek, fast-paced and
tension-filled remake of the 1974 classic. Travolta is the evil
mastermind who hijacks a NYC subway train and holds 18 passengers hostage
for an enormous ransom. Washington is the recently demoted transit
dispatcher whose ordinary day manning the controls turns to chaos as he
becomes the chief negotiator with the kidnapper who must use his vast
knowledge of the subway system to outwit the psychotic villain and save
the hostages before his hour runs out. This riveting summer entertainment
from director Tony Scott (Crimson Tide) and writer Brian Helgeland (Mystic
River, LA Confidential) also features terrific performances by John
Turturro as the hostage negotiator and James Gandolfini as NYC's mayor in
supporting roles.

Fri July 17 - Mon July 20
EASY VIRTUE (PG-13) 97min
Adapted from a Noel Coward play by director Stephen Elliot (The Adventures
of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert), this whimsical, witty costume comedy
of bad manners is a visual delight. When, in 1929, upper-crust Briton
John (Ben Barnes, Prince Caspian) brings home his new wife Larita (Jessica
Biel), a spunky American race car driver, his prim mother (Kristen Scott
Thomas) is seriously disappointed, but his battle-scarred father (Colin
Firth) seems approvingly amused by the situation; his two sisters aren't
sure what to make of their new sister-in-law. A short visit gets
extended, and scandalous personal details emerge that force everyone to
reconsider themselves. The excellent cast and stylish period details make
this a delightful, crowd-pleasing film.
Tues July 21 - Thurs July 23
RUDO Y CURSI (R) 103min [in Spanish with subtitles]
This charming comedy about two brothers, both buddies and rivals trying to
find a hold onto any opportunity to escape poverty, features Diego Luna
(Milk) and Gael García Bernal (Motorcycle Diaries), reunited for the first
time since their breakout film Y Tu Mama Tambien. Tough Rudo (Luna)
dreams of playing professional soccer. Goofball Cursi (Bernal), despite a
lack of talent, seeks to be a famous singer, but is tapped to join a
big-time soccer team by a talent scout, leaves for the city and becomes
his team's star scorer. Soon, Beto is selected to play for another soccer
team, and poverty seems a thing of the past. But will their personal
rivalries and inner demons threaten their success? This is the directing
debut of screenwriter Carlos Cuarón (Y Tu Mama Tambien)

COMING ON OUR SECOND SCREEN:
HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE (PG) 153min
In the sixth installment of the popular fantasy adventure series, the dark
force of Lord Voldemort is gaining strength in both the Muggle and
wizarding worlds, and Harry thinks it may be lurking in Hogwarts castle
too (what is Draco Malfoy up to, anyway?). But Headmaster Dumbledore is
more concerned with teaching Harry all he knows while trying to unlock the
Dark Lord's defenses. This includes learning a crucial memory of
Professor Slughorn, the new Potions teacher. Meanwhile Harry has been
made captain of the Quidditch team, and love is in the air for Harry and
Ron, while Hermione staunchly refuses to reveal her simmering jealousy.
PUBLIC ENEMIES (R) 143min
Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean), Christian Bale (The Dark Knight)
and Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose) have joined acclaimed filmmaker
Michael Mann (The Insider, Last of the Mohicans) to tell the true story of
the legendary Depression era outlaw John Dillinger and his team of
gangsters including Pretty Boy Floyd, and Baby Face Nelson. Dillinger
(Depp), the charismatic bank robber whose lightning raids and audacious
jailbreaks made him the #1 target of J. Edgar Hoover's fledgling FBI and
its top agent Melvin Purvis (Bale), also became a folk hero for much of
the public who distrusted the banks that had plunged the country into
depression.
